I am here to make tech easier & more accessible for you. I want to make the software development process feel manageable and natural - I want you to feel confident taking these big steps. I’ve certainly grown quite a bit through my years of experience, but I haven’t forgotten what it feels like to begin something new. I’m here to walk alongside you, to offer my advice and guidance as a partner in your journey to bring your vision to life.
I plunged head-first into empathy: learning and understanding the deepest nuances of these intricate humans, these characters and cast members who were very different from me. Now, I help coach my clients to harness empathy as a key skill to enable them to build products both with and for other people. Want to learn more? Check out my resume!
I majored in Theatre Arts. I didn’t write code or solve math problems or take business exams. Instead, I was memorizing Shakespearean sonnets, dreaming up playful costume and makeup designs, and collaborating with creatives to evolve big ideas into great shows.
Before we started working with Kate, our team was unsure of the direction we should go. We hired Kate and ended up leaving each consultation with confidence in our next steps. This advice gave us an idea of how our users would perceive our product once it did get out in the market which gave us the ability to solidify our onboarding and user experience, giving us the best outcome possible for our app. I would implore you to hire her and trust the work that she’s done! - JOEL S.
Your custom-created plan will be just that: yours. I’m always continuing to read and learn more as tech is ever-evolving, so our approach to your product will never be stale.
Many consultants use repeatable, formulaic processes that are intended to be one-size-fits-all - I won’t. I’ve gained extensive experience working with teams from all over the spectrum: from pre-startup entrepreneurs defining their core business model, all the way up to enterprise teams trying to organize and communicate product priorities that don’t seem to align with external dependencies and timelines. Different apps, different people, different goals, different tools.
I care a lot about forward progress - I’m one of those weirdos that LOVES change. I’m committed to improving my life and my clients' lives, taking meaningful action to make sure that I leave things better than I found them. I care about clear, direct communication: setting expectations and giving honest feedback. I care about our fragile environment and our ongoing, concerted strides towards civil and social justice, diversity, equity and equality. And I care a lot about moments of delight - for you, for your team, and for your users.
Hands-down: ABC's LOST. I love the rich character flashbacks, the high-stakes drama and intriguing mysteries, the gorgeous backdrop of Hawaii and how the island became a character itself. I may or may not have traveled to Oahu myself for LOST Con 2017 - where I may or may not have won a costume contest dressed as a polar bear. Also, I absolutely loved the finale and will happily chat with someone who didn't :P
Ooh! This is rough. Atlanta has some seriously incredible food - although Dallas has the best margaritas. Central Virginia is the perfect location for beach and mountain lovers, and New York City never sleeps so there's always something to get into - but I absolutely love San Francisco. Gorgeous weather year-round, surrounded by the Bay, diverse and progressive community mindsets, in the heart of the tech world. You just can't beat SF :)
